Immigration Law Paralegal Specialty Course

In this course you will learn to Identify the duties and role in the immigration process of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE); Analyze the basic requirements of various immigration forms for certain nonimmigrants and immigrants, as they related to attaining status and relief from removal; Identify the differences between the immigration statuses of the different categories of nonimmigrants, immigrants, and U.S. citizens; Analyze the duties, roles, and responsibilities of immigration related suborganizations within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as well as the Immigration Court system and proceedings, from initiation to conclusion or appeal; Identify the differences between inadmissibility and removal, as well as common reasons for each; and Demonstrate the ability to comprehend and articulate key areas in U.S. immigration process and policy regarding employment / family-based immigration and asylum.

Learn directly from Practicing Immigration Attorneys and earn Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits to support your ongoing professional development. Upon successful completion, participants receive an official Certificate of Completion.

This course is part of the Oakland University Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) ABA-Approved Paralegal Program. OU PACE offers a rotating selection of 7-week Special Topic courses designed for focused CLE skill development. Course offerings change each semester to cover timely, high-demand areas of law—including Criminal Law, Immigration Law and other emerging specialties.
