Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County and Bank of America partner in Southfield for Global Build initiative

SOUTHFIELD, MI (October 6, 2025) – Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County and Bank of America will come together to address the need for safe, sustainable, and affordable housing in Southfield as part of Bank of America’s Global Build initiative to support affordable housing and revitalization projects in communities around the world.

Habitat Oakland received a $35,000 grant from Bank of America to build a duplex in Southfield. On October 6, Bank of America will send 15 employees to volunteer with the organization to finish construction for two homebuyers in the affordable homeownership program. Throughout the process, the identified homebuyers have contributed to the construction of their homes through sweat equity alongside hundreds of volunteers since June, 2025. Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County and Bank of America are eager to see both homebuyers close on their homes by the end of the year. They will be home for the holidays!

The work Bank of America is doing locally in Oakland County is part of a larger commitment, as the company will volunteer with more than 90 Habitat for Humanity organizations in the U.S. and internationally to help build, repair, or renovate homes.  In 2014, Bank of America and Habitat launched its first Global Build event in 36 communities around the world, engaging employees to work alongside families to build or improve a place they can call home. Since then, Global Build events have taken place with more than 110 local Habitat affiliates in the U.S. and in countries including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam.

“We believe in increasing access to affordable home ownership and driving economic mobility in the region,” said Ed Siaje, president, Bank of America Detroit. “Partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County for Global Build Day is one of the best opportunities to help neighborhoods flourish and always meaningful for our team.”

Bank of America’s partnership with Habitat strengthens its longstanding commitment to creating sustainable cities and communities around the world and helping families achieve affordable homeownership. Since 1986, Bank of America has donated more than $88 million to support Habitat’s efforts to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
